Directions to the Bennett's Point Ride (a.k.a. Bear's Island)

Coming from Charleston, go south on Hwy 17. It's a total of 34.0 miles from the intersection of Hwy 17 and I-526 to the Wood Brother's Amoco where we'll meet.

from the intersection of Hwy 17 and I-526 (near Citadel Mall) to Ravenel

→ 13.0 miles

to Jacksonboro

→ 6.8 miles

to the Ashepoo River

→ 2.0 miles

to Wood Brother's Store on the left after you cross the Ashepoo River. Look for the big "Wood Brothers" sign on a fence and the Amoco gas pumps in the parking lot.

Ride Notes

This isn't a ride that we do very often. My favorite time of year to do this ride is in the fall and winter. The trigger is usually a holiday (like Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years) or a request from someone. I prefer not to do it during the warmer months because of hordes of bugs!

From the parking lot at Wood Brothers to Bennett's Point is just under 17 miles (34 miles round trip). My experience has been that the stores (with restrooms) at both ends of the ride have been open every time I've been there (even on Sunday). Expect VERY light traffic, virtually no hills, and superb scenery.

We often like to meet at Gilligan's (just off Hwy 17 on Main Road, John's Island) after the ride for lunch.
